Canadian Idol Season 6 - Final Results

This is it! Tonight, whatever happens, Canada will have crowned its Canadian Idol. This season was quite special, with many very talented singers, artists and musicians. One can even argue, the most talented yet. Who will Canada choose as its Idol? Will it be Mitch Macdonald, Pitchy Mitchy, lover of local, pittoresque, folksy canadian music? Or will it be Theo Tams, the classically trained piano man with the amazing voice? Regardless of my preference, I think both would make great idols, as it is clear they love music, love canadian music and would represent the country very well.

But enough blah blah... On with the show!

We start with a medley with our Top 10... Can't Stop This Thing We Started by Bryan Adams. Yeah, more Bryan Adams!!!! All the idols have a little solo song. First Adam Castelli. Nice to see Sebastian Pigott singing "Down On The Corner", complete with a little funky dance... *L* Now it's Amberly Thiessen. Oh, Mark Day with Phil Collins "You'll Be in My Heart"... *L* Oh, and now Earl comes on stage on his skateboard, sunglasses on, sounding totally funky and soulful. LOVE IT!!!! Katherine St-Laurent with more 80's style rock... They really pigeonholed her... Now Mookie with a very british inspired song (I know it but can't remember the title now...). Mitch now.. Looking good with his shirt... Love the drums and the clapping. Wow, I'm loving him on this song!!! Theo with funky yellow glasses singing an Elton John song. *shakes head* And Drew, of course, with the rock song, singing Lenny Kravitz "Are You Gonna Go My Way". All the idols come back to finish with
Bryan Adams song again.

Ben talks to the judges now, and asked totally stupid filler questions... *sigh*

Looking back on all the people who auditioned, to the music of Simple Plan, Miss Me When I'm Gone.

Hedley takes the stage now to sing their latest single "Old School". Wow Jacob looks like... I don't know, a weird cross between an italian mob guy and Jesus? Regardless, he sounds really good. He's really worked on his voice and it shows. I really like the song!

Ben chats with Mitch, and they show live images of Porth Hood, NS. Wow, they interview Mitch's uncle who's from Michigan. He says that every Monday, he drives to Canada and then vote for Mitch from there. Now that is dedication.

And now a little segment with Jully Black. Meh. Oh, and she sings, too. Meh.

And now Ben interviews Theo Tams. They check in with Lethbridge AB. His grade 5 teacher is interviewed. Ben makes a fool of himself.... Segway to a montage of all the mentors and invited artists we saw on the show this year; Tom Jones, Bryan Adams, Anne Murray, John Legend, Simple Plan...

So far it is a pretty lukewarm finale....

Oh boy and now it's Mariah Carey.... *fast forward*

Ben and Farley travelled to Malawi. We are shown how poor the people there are, but also how full of hope they are. Unicef programs are in action there, and Ben and Farley see what's being done through those programs.

Quick segway to an inspirational song with the Top 10. Sebastian Pigott is so cute, and he sounds really good. He looks really happy.

Hey there Kurt Browning!!!

Brian Melo performs his latest single, "Back To Me". Sounding good...

We are all canadians... It's a cute segment and testament to canadian music, and how different it might be from one region to another, but how very canadian this love for music is. The contestants talk about how their hometown support was so important.

And for the final time, the Top 10 sing together. Home from Daughtry!!!! While I love the song, it's a bit strange that is what they chose to represent us canadians... Oh well.

The judges talk about Theo, how unforgettable his inital audition was - sweaty arm pits!!!! They talk about how they didn't know what kind of musician he really was, since he didn't play piano until Top 200, when he performed a song called "In a Life". Spectacular they say.

Theo now performs "Weak In The Knees", my very favorite he did during the season. Beautiful.

And now the judges talk about Mitch. Sass remembers she said that Mitch is the kind of person that sneaks in and wins the show... We'll see if she's right soon I guess! Mitch had a great instinct to choose the right song. Genuinely nice guy!

Mitch performs Love This Town once again. So great for him. Perfect.

After a look back on their season, Theo and Mitch perform together for the last time. Surprisingly their voices go well together.

Finally the results...

We learn that the Top 3 will head across the country on a 26 date tour, with guest appearances from the rest of the Top 10.

Canada voted...

And the next Canadian Idol is...

Theo Tams!!!!!

Wow, he's so emotional and crying and all... Mitch was a class act, smiling the whole way and congratulating Theo. Very nice to see.

Theo closes the show singing his single, "Sing".

Great season!!!!

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 2 - Final Performance

Here we go... The season is coming to an end and we are faced with the last night of performances.

Let's get to it, shall we?

John Legend and Hedley worked with the Top 2 this week. The idols will perform three songs each; one chosen by the judges, one chosen by the contestants and one that will potentially be the first single for the eventual winner.

Mitch Macdonald - Paris (Contestant Choice)
Seems like the sound mix is fucked up - his guitar is barely audible. Hum. Nevertheless, I thought this was a nice performance for Mitch. Nothing earth shattering, but nice and comfortable all the same. I didn't know the song, so this might play against him. I thought his voice was really good, much better than I've heard it be in the last few weeks.

Theo Tams - Good Mother (contestant choice)
Theo seemed awfully nervous, and it showed in his performance. However, his voice was as dynamic, as pure, as wonderful as it usually is. Very passionate performance, well executed, very, very touching. Really enjoyed that.

Round 1 - Theo

Mitch Macdonald - Where We Begin (Potential Single)

I suspect this was much better live than it appeared on TV. Pretty repetitive and well, boring.

Theo Tams - Sing (Potential Single)
Another not so great song, although it's better than what poor Mitch got... This one sounds much more radio friendly and ready... Theo's voice was drowned big time during the low parts and I just don't really care for the song.

Mitch Macdonald - If (judges choice)

A bit of an unusual choice from the judges. But it allowed Mitch to do his thing, so it's all good. It was a nice and touching performance, and it was kinda cool to see Mitch smiling throughout the performance, as if he was soaking everything from the experience up. Nicely done.

Theo Tams - I Wanna Know What Love Is (judges choice)

WTF choice if there is one. Theo sang the crap out of it tho. He really gave it his all...

I think the best performance for both contestant was the very first one they did. I was kinda disappointed about the show tonight - I was expecting a bit more from both. Who will win? Who knows... We'll see tomorrow....

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 3 - Results

We will soon know who will be our Top 2....

The recap from last night's performances only solidified for me that I miss Earl, and that Theo was by far the stand out.

And now it's BRYAN ADAMS!!!! Singing "18 til I Die", and he's sounding as good as ever. YEAH!!!!! Bryan Adams is the shit!!!!

Bryan Adams sings "She's Got a Way", his brand new single. WOO HOOO!!! Love him!

And now we see the visits of the Top 3 when they went back home, with Drew and Theo.

Now it's Mitch's hometown visit. Wow, the crowd!

Oh, onto the results now... And of course, after chatting with the judges, Ben is cruel and makes us wait until after the break to reveal who goes home...

Alright, here we go...

And Drew is going home. He ends the night with his rendition of "Cuts Like a Knife", and it was again really great!

So Mitch and Theo are Top 2. Next week is the big final performance show, followed by the big finale!

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 3 - Performances

I am torn coming into Top 3 week. I love, love, love Bryan Adams, so I am really looking forward to hearing his music on the show! But I have no fav left now that the Pigott Bros and Earl are gone. :( Well, ok, I like Theo. He's always entertaining and he's got a gorgeous voice. Ok, I like Theo. I want Theo to win. :)

Oh, but I won't dwell on that... It's Bryan Fucking Adams!!!! Gawd that guy has produce tons of hits, and I love them all. His old songs are still relevant and fun, and the good old sappy "Heaven" still get my eyes teary and my arms goosebumpy (yes it's a word, nah). And his newer songs are fun and great to sing along. What can I say? I love me some Bryan Adams! He's the rocker that got me hooked on rock, so I cannot help but have a special place in my heart for him.

"I believe that, if I had started anywhere else in the world (but here in Canada), I would not be where I am today" - gotta love him!!!!!

Drew Wright -Cuts Like a Knife
I am gonna come right out and say I did not want Drew to do well with this. He is no Bryan Adams! But... He did really, really, REALLY well with this song. Perfect for his voice, great rock song for him, and I have to admit I really love how he funked it up. Very nicely done! I only wish he would have started getting crazy earlier rather than just at the end (which I guess kinda summarize what Zack was saying). But great one for Drew!

Theo Tams - Heaven
I loved the fact that Bryan Adams was so impressed by Theo playing the piano and singing. The performance? Goosebumps. The crowd cannot shut up!!! WOW. Everything was absolutely amazing, except maybe a bit more power in the vocals during the bridge. The end was amazing... I thought he was done with the slowed down "Heaven"... But then the orchestra kicked in one last time... Took my breath away. I could have done without the runs at the very end tho... Wow, Theo keeps impressing me week after week. This was GORGEOUS!

Mitch Macdonald - Heat of The Night
This is a great song, but this was not a great performance. Mitch showed how limited his vocal range is, and how outside his comfort zone he was. Good on him for taking on a real rock song and not turning it folksy, but I think he would have benefitted from choosing a song that would have fitted his style better (like one of the newer songs, or even "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman". Jake was right - angry doesn't work for Mitch.

They showed some clips of the Top 3 going back home a few weeks ago. And I was totally impressed by the size of the crowd at Mitch's homecoming. No wonder the guy is still in the running if he has that kind of support! Wow!

Drew Wright - I'm Ready
First, no one sings that song like Bryan Adams. No one has come close to producing a good version of it besides Greg Neufeld.

I'm sure those of you who know me are not surprised by this. *LOL*

Drew did a good job vocally, but I was left wanting a whole lot more. I found it pretty bland. I really wish he'd reached more on the chorus, like he did near the end with the "I'm Ready"'s. It was a nice vocal performance, and Drew seemed extremely comfortable singing that song, which is a huge plus. But, he really didn't take me the whole way with this song.

Theo Tams - When You're Gone
Meh. I enjoyed the singing with the backup singer, and that Theo got up from behind the piano, oups keyboard... But other than that, it was pretty... Meh. I liked the different rhythm he created for the song, but to me, this is a roll down your windows, drive fast, sing at the top of your lungs kinda song. Not so much with Theo's version.

Mitch Macdonald - When You Love Someone
It was much better than his first performance, much more in his comfort zone. I thought he sounded awfully whiny on it tho. The arrangement sounded really sloppy, and the hautbois (sorry don't know the word if english)? No, just no.

Best performance of the night: Without a doubt Theo with "Heaven"
Worst performance of the night: Without a doubt Mitch with "Heat of The Night"
Honorable mention: Drew with "Cuts Like a Knife"

I'm hoping it's Mithc's time to go home, but at this point, it's hard to tell for sure who will!!!

Tomorrow, Bryan Adams perform, woo hoo!

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 4 - Results

Top 4 results...

After a recap of the previous night, the Top 4 perform Danny Song. Anne Murray then performs her song (the title escapes me!).

Anne Murray sings another song, Could I Have This Dance.

Now Jordin Sparks performs her single One Step At a Time.

Finally the results. The four guys are at center stage with Ben. He asks each of the judges to talk about one contestant. And then we get the results:

Earl is going home. :(

Next week, the idols get to sing two songs from Bryan Adams song book. Should be good!

Earl closes the show with The Joker once again. *LOL* Oh Earl... He wants to do a train in the theater, but no one wants to follow him! He goes crazy on stage and jumps all over the place... Shakes hand with the band at the end. I'll miss Earl!

I'll definitely miss Earl. :(

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 4 - Performances

Tonight, the idols will perform a song from Anne Murray's catalogue, as well as a song of their choice.

Mitch Macdonald - Cotton Jenny
I'm not a huge country fan, but I thought this song really suited Mitch. It was right in his range, and it was a fun little song for him to sing. I thought his vocals were pretty good. I love Mitch's "Check it out, check it out, I can tap dance" answer to Zack. :)

Earl Stevenson - Killing Me Softly
Ah, I love that song! Great song choice for Earl - I absolutely adore how he sings it with the piano in rehearsal. I was a tiny bit disappointed with the arrangement for the actual performance, but Earl's voice on it was awesome, and the groove he put to it was great. Not as good as last week - yeah, bet lotsa people will say that because last week was absolutely KILLER! - but really good nonetheless.

BTW, Blake Lewis and Melinda Doolittle did that song thge very first night of the American Idol Season 6 Tour - they nixed it after that, and I still don't know why. Check it out!

Drew Wright - Hey Daddy
A bit of an odd choice for a show like Canadian Idol, but nonetheless, I thought it was a really good choice for Drew. It allowed him to be playful and totally relax on stage. It was fun, and his vocals were actually really good. I enjoyed it!

Theo Tams - You Don’t Know Me
Awwwwww... Theo can sing anything. He really, really can. He's looking really good in that dark blue shirt and his hair style is great. His voice has so much texture and feelings to it... I love it. I love that Anne told him to not sing so many runs, and I'm so glad he listened! I felt like his physical performance didn't match the emotion in his vocals, but that would be the only negative thing I'd say, because it was great.

Mitch - Between the Bars
I love when contestants go off the beaten path and choose songs that are not as well known to the public. Mitch has done that well this year, but not this week. This song was odd, a bit depressing, and while Mitch sang it well, I didn't feel anything when he sang. It was actually rather boring.

Earl Stevenson - The Joker
Aw, that was great! Love that he included "Ben Mulroney calls me Big Earl" *LOL* Too funny! I would have liked to hear a bit more energy in Earl's voice, but all in all the song was fun and great for him. Nicely done! What Jake said - that he felt like Earl didn't want to be there - was really odd. Earl seemed totally stumped with it. I'm not liking this at all.

Drew Wright - Gravity
Love Drew's guitar O face. *L* I thought this was good, especially in the parts where he pushes his vocals. It was kinda meh on the lower parts tho.

Theo Tams - Chariot
Great, great, GREAT! This kind of song suits Theo so well, it's like it is his own song. Love him at the piano, and love him ON the piano! That was a great move to go up there and made for an even more dynamic performance. Best of the night by a huge mile!

I think it is fairly clear that Theo was the best tonight. Earl was great, but seemed a bit off in his second song, and I can't get over what Jake told him (and the lack of response from Earl). Drew seems to be getting stronger and stronger, and while he is not my cup of tea, I can see the appeal. Mitch is very recognizable, but I feel he's a bit over his head in this now.

Mitch should be the one going home, but I am afraid it might be Earl's time... Hopefully not!

Theo Tams in Alberta - Homecoming

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 5 - Results

Results night...

We start with a recap from the previous night...

Tribute from the Top 5

Mitch singing Blakcbird was kinda weird... I love that song so much, it's probably one of my favorite, and I would have love to hear Theo sing it... Drew totally lost all the momentum he had built the previous night when he sang Eleanor Rigby. He even raised his arms to the side on the "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Look at all the lonely people", just like David Cook did. No, Drew. Just no. Mookie singing Get Back was fun! I am ashamed to say that I don't know the title of the song Earl sang... Bad Bouffe. But it was good!!! And Theo with Let It Be. Just gorgeous. I was really disappointed he didn't sing this one last night.

I am TIRED with the Jully Black segments. And those questions... Weird! Hot Soup asking about the economy? *LOL* Earl's answer was totally staged, but it was still funny, I must admit.

On to the results...

Theo... Mitch... Canada voted... Theo is SAFE, and so is Mitch.

Earl... Mookie... Drew... Canada voted, and... Drew is the first member of the B2. Earl is SAFE. YEAH! Which means Mookie is in the B2.

Call me Monday, Jake?

Canada voted, and Drew is SAFE, which means Mookie is going home. Bye Mook... He seems a bit relieved... Breaking his guitar? What did that poor thing ever do to you? *L*

Next week is Ann Murray week... Oh boy.

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 5 - Performances

Beatles night tonight! I hope it'll be good...

But before we get to the performances, we are shown a clip of the idols visiting Camp Oochigeas, which is a camp for kids who are battling cancer. The camp is about celebrating life and enjoying it. It seems to have been a really uplifting experience for the idols, who say those kids were inspiration for them, as well as great examples of just living life! The camp offers all kinds of activities for the kids, at no cost to their parents. Donors, volunteers, THANK YOU for all you do for those kids and their families!

Wanna know more about the camp? Visit their website at http://www.ooch.org/

Alright, the show. The judges are the ones picking songs for the contestants this week. I like that the judges explain why they chose the song for the contestants and how they think it's perfect for them. They show clips of their best moments as the judges talk. We start with...

Earl Stevenson - With a Little Help From My Friends
HOLY FUCK!!!!!!!!!! Earl was absolutely FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC!!!! He gave me chills and cold sweats and tears in my eyes. He really dug into the soul of that song and just let it all poured out of him. I absolutely adored that he showed his soft voice and then the bluesy quality of it at other times in the song. I think this was the best he's done vocally; he really controlled his voice, letting it go when needed and taming it down when required. I also don't think we've heard him sing such high notes that well yet. WOW! While I loved the back and forth between him and the background singers, I thought they sang a little too much. But you know what? It really doesn't matter. Earl KILLED that song and it was awesome and I want him to sing that song over and over and over again. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also really loved that he stayed more or less in one place, swaying back and forth with the mike stand, only jumping once or twice during the performance. It kind of concentrated all the emotions and meanings of the song and made it all that much more powerful. Can I say it again? WOW!!!!!!!

I actually had to rewatch it a few times before I could move on and watch the other performances. *L*

Mookie Morris - Come Together
Great choice for Mookie. The judges say he's got a very british something about him, and I agree. The style of the song really suited Mookie, and I really enjoyed how he performed it. However, I thought there was some oumph missing... I don't know. It was still a solid performance.

Theo Tams - Long and Winding Road
Great song choice for Theo - Canada loves that kind of ballad. I think Theo did really well vocally - he's always very strong there, and this was no exception. However, I felt he was missing the emotional connection he always conveyed so well in his previous performances. I was kind of disapointed the judges didn't give him "Let It Be". For a piano man like Theo, this would have been perfect. It could have been just him and the piano. Epic moment. As it is, I feel the judges missed the boat a bit on that one.

Mitch Macdonald - In My Life
Aw, that was pretty. I didn't think the first part of the song did justice to Mitch's voice. It highlighted some of its weaknesses instead. But then the second part of the song was really, really, REALLY nice. I really like when he pushes his vocals to the edge; I always think he's gonna loose it, but then he doesn't. All in all, I think it was a good performance from Mitch. Not his best, but still solid.

Drew Wright - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
I LOVE that song. I know it's a Beatles song and that Clapton did it, but it'll forever and ever be a Jeff Healey song for me. I was kinda disappointed they didn't mention him (ETA: I had written this before listening to the judges comments - I am glad Jake mentioned Jeff).

BUT! Back to Drew. I really enjoyed his version of Creep and thought he had done well with it. But with WMGGW, he hit the emotion and passion that I thought was missing a bit from Creep. And the guitar playing was killer. His soft vocals in the beginning gave me chills - a first with Drew for me. Very, very strong. What they showed in the recap at the end was my favorite moment of Drew's performance. GREAT!

All in all, it really was a great show that I enjoyed thoroughly from start to finish. Everyone brought it, and it is now a matter of who floats your boat more than who did best. Although if Earl goes home, I'll be pissed because his performance was not only the performance of the night but I think the best of the season so far (although Theo's Weak In The Knees is right up there for me, too).

My ranking for tonight:

Earl
.
.
.
Drew
Theo
Mookie
Mitch

I do think it's Mitch's turn to go home, but I'd be very surprise if he's the one leaving. At this point, it's hard to predict who will... I'm still scared for Earl - he went first and was in the bottom 3 two weeks in a row... I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 6 - Results

Results night... The top 6 goes to 5... Who will go home???

And we start with the group singing Sloan's Money City Maniacs. Then we go into a recap from the night before, done a la TSN Sports Center, with the two anchors, Darren and Jay. Weird.

Simple Plan perfrom their latest it, "Your Love Is a Lie".

Telus gets in the action and "helps the viewers get the idols a bit better". A viewer sent a question (this one was for Mookie): Who would you hang out with if you could, Neil Young or Bob Dylan? Moookie answers Niel Young...

Onto the results now...

Canada voted and Mookie joins Ben at center stage. Ugh?

Canada voted and Earl stays on the couch, Um...

Canada voted and Amberly stays on the couch, too...

Canada voted and Theo joins Ben at center stage. WTF? The crowd is booing...

Canada voted and Drew stays on the couch.

Canada voted and Mitch joins Ben at center stage.

Mitch, Theo and Mookie, the ones at center stage are all SAFE.

Earl, Amberly and Drew who were on the couch are in the BOTTOM 3.

Who will go home?

Canada voted and the idol going home is...

Amberly.

Next week will be judges choice and the idols will sing songs from the Beatles.

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 6 - Performances

I will post the videos later once they are available. For now, here are my thoughts on each performances:

ETA: Videos are up! Thanks igrecman!

Simple Plan band members are the mentors.

Amberly Thiessen - 1,2,3,4
I thought this was an excellent song choice for Amberly. She looked much more comfortable without her guitar this time around. Seems like the tempo of the song might have been a tad fast for her, but I thought she sang it great. She looked GREAT, but I thought it was weird to go all dark with the look on a song like this. Zack's comment to her about Elvira was, while true, a bit weird, coming from the guy who's been showering her with love all season.

Theo Tams - Sweet Ones
Theo is back behind the piano this week. I guess he didn't like his trip to the bottom 3 last week... I wouldn't have either. His performance of Sweet Ones was awesome. I totally agree with the judges - when he performs at the piano, it's like the piano is part f him. It seems effortless and so very natural. I love that he got up and kicked the piano bench near the end. His voice was great on that, and the ending was just wow!

Mitch MacDonald - Love This Town
This was absolutely perfect for Mitch. I've always thought he has that acoustic, indie kind of vibe and he showed that tonight. Very well done. He doesn't have a powerful voice, but when it is put in the right context like this was, it is very, very, very pleasant.

Earl Stevenson - Little Bones
I absolutely love Earl. "I hope not, I love grandmas!" I mean, how can you not love him? I've loved him since the very beginning, where my top 4 were the Piggot Brothers, Theo and Earl. But tonight was a hot mess, and not a good one. Earl was pitchy like I've never heard him before. Sure he made the song his own and I appreciate that... But this was not good. It's like Earl is going in a direction that is not himself. Where are the beautiful vocals? The shy, yet confident demeanor? The soul? This was pitchy and whiny and nasally as hell. I'm scared for Earl. :(

It's funny how the judges seem to either hear things differently (granted things do sound different in the studio) or give comments to try and push their favorites. I agree with the judges that it is absolutely awesome that Earl is up there on that stage to be nothing more and nothing less than Earl. He's himself, no censor, and I love that from him. But this performance was NOT GOOD. I will be interested in hearing if the judges have anything to say about it during the results show.

Drew Wright - That Song
I have mixed feelings on this performance. On the one hand, I thought Drew's vocals were not very strong. He sounded shaky in places, and the music totally drowned him in others. On the other hand, I thought the ending was fantastic. It was a good move to finish on the mellow part of the song. I really am enjoying Drew in that rock guy persona, but I was expecting a bit more from tonight's performance.

Mookie Morris - Magic Carpet Ride
Didn't like the glasses, didn't like the dj scratching the disc. Kinda meh on the performance. Love the bridge and the ending. The mike throwing was cool, too.

My Top 3:
Mitch
Theo
Amberly

My Bottom 3:
Mookie
Drew
Earl

Going home: I think Earl might be in trouble, but I'm gonna say Amberly.

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 7 - Results

Who will go home this week?

Ben asks the judges about what they thought of the previous night's show. Farley comes right out saying he hopes Theo, Mookie and Earl stick around for a while. The top 7 then performs some of Tom Jones' biggest hits. And Tom Jones himself closes the number with "It's Not Unusual".

Tom Jones now performs a new song, If He Should Ever Leave You.

Jullia Black tells us all about how the idols get ready, with makeup and fashion and all that. I love Earl, 'nuff said.

Finally on with the results...

Drew and Amberly first - Canada voted, and they are both SAFE.

Earl and Theo - Canada voted and they are both in the BOTTOM 3. WTF????

Mitch, Mark and Mookie - Canada voted, and Mitch is SAFE. Mookie is SAFE. Mark is BOTTOM 3.

So Earl, Theo and Mark are in the BOTTOM 3. Who will stay? Who will go? Let's find out...

Bye bye Mark... Very classy exit.

Next week, the Top 6 tackles Canadian Rock. WOO HOO!!!!! Montreal band Simple Plan will be there to show us how it's done.

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 7 - Performances

Top 7!

Tom Jones worked with the idols this week, as they take on hits from the U.K.

Mark Day -Bleeding Love
Oh boy. It's nice to hear Mark sing a modern song, and I think that if he really felt the lyrics, he could have really hit a homerun with this. As it is now tho, it was merely ok. No real emotions behind his vocals, cheesy stage presence with the pointing at the audience, and it seems like he tried too hard when he pushed his vocals here and there. Very meh.

Mitch Macdonald - Jealous Guy
Good song choice for Mitch. The beginning is rough and seems too low. But when he reaches for the higher notes, it sounds really good. Not bad, but not his best.

Doody... Oh Ben...

Drew Wright - Creep
Gotta be honest - when I heard Drew was doing Creep, I said to myself - NO FUCKING WAY is he going to pull this off. While his cover is not my favorite of all the ones out there (hello David Cook, Lukas Rossi, Magni!), I thought he did a really, really good job. I dind't care for how the song was cut, but that's not really in his control, so I won't hold it against him. I thought his vocals were the best I've heard from him so far, and holly molly that RUUUUUUUUUUUUUN was impressive. The makeover makes it all the better for me - while before I could not watch him perform, this time I could. don't care for the nose ring tho... All in all, really good from Drew.

Theo Tams - You Had Me
I was nervous for Theo when he asked for advice on stage presence. But boy, those worries faded away quickly! I really didn't care for the big shoulder jacket, but the little bit of facial hair - WOW! And I didn't think Theo had the growl in him - I was wrong, he does! I really enjoyed his performance - vocally it was strong (although the beginning seemed a bit rushed) and the performance was really good. Awesome!

Mookie Morris - Lola
That was good. Great choice for him. Too low in the beginning, a bit shaky. But when he kicks into gear in the second verse, it sounds great. Performance wise, I'd love to see a bit more from him. From the judges comments, seems like Mookie might not get the votes the judges/producers want him to get...

Amberly Thiessen - Put Your Records On
I'm not too fond of this song, so this might cloud my judgement somewhat. I really didn't like this performance from Amberly. She was on pitch, but she seemed so uncomfortable without her guitar, concentrating so hard on how she'd perform the song that I felt her vocals suffered - no power, no feelings, no passion. Not good. Seems like the judges disagree...

Earl Stevenson - Change The World
Hey Tom, how's it going? *L* I love Earl and his laid back attitude. Listening to him rehearse, I thought, wow, this will be GOOD... But it was not. :( And it makes me sad. I thought the beginning was weird, too low in the vocals and fake in the performance. Then the chorus - it sounded much better and I liked it. But this son, to me, doesn't go at all with Earl's style. The ending was totally WTF for me.

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 8 - Results

Oh yeah, result night!

The idols start with an unplugged version of "My Generation", which is actually not half bad. Earl came out on a skateboard... *L*

Zach's band album is out today... Meh.

Recap of the night before.... Oh yeah baby!

Gavin Rossdale performs an unplugged version of his single, "Love Remains The Same"

Ben announces that Ann Murray will be on the show at some point.

Another one of Jullia Black's cameo. This time she interviews the idols at the mansion. Youppi. Highlight of that segment was Earl singing some kind of song - he sounded good!

So on with the results...

Earl is pronounced SAFE, as well as Drew. Mark is the first member of the BOTTOM 3.

Theo is also pronounced SAFE.

Mitch is also SAFE.

Sebastian is the second member of the BOTTOM 3.

Amberly and Mookie are left for last. Amberly is SAFE while Mookie is in the BOTTOM 3.

And who will be going home???

Yep, Sebastian. *sigh*

Ben seems to be a fan of the Pigott Brothers. I know I am! I am sad to see Sebastian go. :(

He performs "Lucille" one more time, much much better than the night before. DAMN! Why didn't he do this last night? *sigh*

Next week - Tom Jones...

Bye Sebastian!

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 8 Performances

This week the contestants go completely acoustic!!! THIS IS CANADIAN IDOL UNPLUGGED! Gavin Rossdale is this week's mentor.

Sebastian Pigott - Lucille
Finally!!!! It's about time that we get the Sebastian we discovered in the early rounds back. This was awesome! I really enjoyed it. Totally in Sebastian's style. Love the dance, the harmonica, the pushing of the vocals. This was full on blues and sould music. LOVE it!

Earl Stevenson - Two (Ryan Adams)
I really like Earl's new haircut. Looking good! Earl was fantastic. I did not know this song, and he totally made me want to check it out. He can sing really pretty when he's not prancing the stage! Love the quieter performance, the softer vocals, the ending that was so pretty. So much soul in this... WOW. Earl, you are DA MAN!

Mark Day - Stay
Wow, I actually enjoyed that! I can't stand his mannerism when he sings, but his voice was really pretty tonight. He seems to really understand the lyrics, and took Gavin's advice to heart. Good for him!

Mitch Macdonald - Oh Atlanta
While it was a bit too happy go lucky for me, I thought Mitch did well with this. His voice sounded really good, ad his stage presence was really cool. Good job!

Amberly Thiessen - The Way I Am
Hmmm... I thought Amberly started out really pitchy and remained pitchy throughout. To me she never really got into the groove to properly deliver her song. Not my fav.

Mookie Morris - Ophelia
The style was great for him, but I was bored.... Way too easy for him to sing such a song.

Drew Wright - Sunday Morning
I thought the style really suited him and that he did really well performance wise. Not a hit outside the park, but something nice nonetheless.

Theo Tams - Weak In The Knees
Holy shit. I knew I'd like this guy if he could keep the runs in check. WOW. The background singers were a bit loud in the chorus, but everything else was perfect. I felt that Theo really took the advice he was given and really connected to the song. BEAUTIFUL.

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 9 Performances

Tonight, the contestants sing songs from Rock & Roll Heaven, or like Ben seems to like saying, songs from people who are dead!

Theo Tams - No Woman No Cry (Bob Marley)
Love, love, love that song. He sang it really well and I liked he took liberties with it. I'd rather hear someone who has more soul sing that song, but I thought he sounded really good nonetheless. Surprise, surprise, he's not playing an instrument tonight... He's done good!

Mitch Macdonald - Angel Eyes (Jeff Heyley)
Holy pitchiness in the beginning! He got his groove by the chorus, and the bridge was really nice. He sounded whiny tho.

Earl Stevenson - Light My Fire (The Doors)
Great choice for Earl. Love how he sounded in the beginning, sitting down on the stool. And then he gets up and throws the stool around?? *LOL* So cool!!!! He got into it so much that I think he forgot the lyrics a bit, but he covered it up well by singing the crap out of the song. Loved, loved, loved it. And dare I say it, but he's looking good with the new hair cut. :)

Sebastian Pigott - Love Me (Elvis Presley)
Alright, this sounds much more like the Sebastian of the earlier rounds. Much better vocals, love the soul he got. I wish he'd push his vocals a bit, because he sounds awesome when he adds a bit of power and reaches a bit. Love the hip movements, of course.. ;) He looks great with that new haircut. Poor Sebastian, they are really being hard on him. He looks totally defeated. I would be, too, if I'd be constantly told that I look great but can't sing. He CAN sing... He sure can. But somehow he's not showing that very much on the show. Missing his bro perhaps? Pressure getting to him? I don't know...

Katherine St-Laurent - Move Over (Janis Joplin)
Holy 80's throw back with the hair and clothes! I love her voice, I really do. I just don't think she connects very much with the lyrics. Seems like Jake and I are of the same opinion...

Drew Wright - No rain (Blind Melon)
Aw, I wish Mitch had sang that song, just because I think it would have suited him very well. Drew's vocals were really good - I liked the parts where he reached, almost going into a falsetto. I also liked the phrase "and it rips my life away", I thought that was just killer. I thought he also showed lots of personality - seems like his venture on the drums last week really loosen things up for him and it's nice to see him come out of his shell. I didn't care for the arrangement - I felt the song was going no where and the ending was weird.

Mookie Morris - I Feel Good (James Brown)
Shut Up and Mook Me! *LMAO* No worries, it's not me, it was a sign in the audience... *L* I thought the song choice was very predictable, and was fully prepare to roll my eyes during the entire performance. I gotta admit, Mookie did good! He worked the audience - he looked really at ease in the audience, it was great. He sounded awesome. I could have done without the little Earl-like walking around the stage and especially without the falling down at the end, but I thought he really did good on this.

Amberly Thiessen - Redemption Song (Bob Marley)
I am almost ashamed to say that I didn't know this song. But I thought her vocals were really great. She gave me goosebumps, actually. My favorite she did so far.

Mark Day - Dance With My Father (Luther Van Dross)
Shaky off the top, and he got drowned by the band a few times, but all in all a good performance. Finally he shows that he can sing and he's not a joke. Still not my cup of tea, but I think that was probably the best he's done so far.

Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Top 10 Performances

Top 10 night!!!! Should be good... The contestants are singing David Bowie's songs...

Drew Wright - Five Years
What's up with the weirdo contacts? Aside from that, it probably was my fav of his so far. His voice sounded good, sounded more powerful than ever before. And I gotta say, anyone that can play the drums and sing at the same time impress me.

Adam Castelli - Rebel Rebel
Dude's coming to the stage on a motorcycle? Seriously? A bit over the top, but I like they are trying new things. Certainly makes for an entrance one cannot miss! The singing could have been better, but then again, this is not really a singer song, so I guess it was fine. I REALLY liked the performance tho, especially when the lights turned red, the music changed and he started really rocking out... My fav from him so far!

Mark Day - Dancing In The Street
OMG. I... I don't know what to say! This was so....... so........ cruiseshipped to the max, karaoked something awful.... From the arrangement to Mark's phrasing to the dancing and the pointing... I really felt like I was on a cruise, trapped and forced to watch a bad show. Sorry Mark, you really, truly have a great personality, and you are a funny guy! But singing ain't one of your talent, man. Gotta say, the judges reactions and Mark's replies to them were quite funny!

Mookie Morris- The Man Who Sold The World
Mookie had such a weird accent singing that song. This is such a great song... And I felt that while Mookie sang it well, there was something missing. The swaying from side to side while playing guitar didn't fit the mood of the song, his singing through his crooked mouth was distracting and I just felt there was not much passion in the performance at all. Good vocals, but not much else.

Amberly Thiessen - Space Oddity
Amberly's voice was really nice on this, I really like her singer-songwriter vibe. I liked she started surrounded by darkness, one spotlight on her and the the lights were on for the last chorus. Good performance.

Sebastian Pigott - Let's Spend The Night Together
The first, slow part was AWESOME (except for the weird out of tune guitar, what was that?). The first time the song speeds up, it's still fabulous. But then it goes into overdrive... And it's not really flying. He seems to have forgotten words, too. It's strange to have a performance that is both really good in parts and awful in others.

Earl Stevenson - Rock and Roll Suicide
First genuinely good performance tonight. LOVED his vocals tonight, especially when he was in his upper register. The prancing around the stage is a bit weird, but it is very "Earl". *L* Great, great choice for him.

Kathering St-Laurent - Cat People
Another good performance. While she was missing a bit of attitude to really pull off that song, I thought her vocals were great. The raspiness in her voice really matched the tone of the song, too. Good job.

Theo Tams - Silly Boy Blue
Argh, why did he have to sing that run at the end? Such a great vocal performance, as well as physical performance. He's SO good... Loved it.

Mitch MacDonald - Moon Age Daydream
It was nice to hear him sing something different this week. I really enjoyed the verses, I thought he worked them out really nicely. The chorus was a bit strange for me tho. Overall, it was good!
