American Idol - Top 10 - Results

Result night!

The night starts with a very extra cheesy group song, “Get It Right Back To Where We Started From”.

One by one, the contestants were called to center stage, and told if they were sent to the couch of safety or the stools of the Bottom 3.

Chikezie is called first, and goes to sit on a stool.

Brooke White - safe

Carly Smithson - safe and not pregnant!

Now we are shown the Ford Commercial. Fun!

David Archuleta - safe!

David Cook - safe! And Chris Cornell loved it!

Syesha Mercado - joins Chikezie on the stools of the Bottom 3

Michael Johns - safe! And hot!

We get the questions from the people at home, and it's pretty funny!

Kimberley Lock performs and I can care less.

Ramiele Malubay - safe!

Kristy Lee Cook and Jason Castro are called to the stage together. Kristy is sent back to safety. Jason is bottom 3!!!

Jason is sent back to safety first. And then Syesha.

Chikezie is sent home.

American Idol - Top 10

Tonight's theme is songs from the year you were born.

Ramiele Malubay - 1987’s “Alone” by Heart

Pitchy, screamy, shouty, bad, bad, bad, bad. The background vocalists were really off on that one, too. I feel bad that she is sick, but this was really bad.

Jason Castro - 1987’s “Fragile” by Sting

It as nice, but nothing earth shattering. His fans are going to love this tho! I liked the little spanish touch.

Syesha Mercado - 1987’s “If I Were Your Woman” by Stephanie Mills

I am actually shocked that I liked it. Definitely her best so far. A bit shouty here and there, but all in all a good performance.

Chikezie - 1985’s “If Only For One Night” by Luther Vandross

Another one that I liked when I didn't think I would. Yeah, it was a bit old fashioned, but it was a nice change of pace for Chikesie I thought. He sang this beautifully, and showed lots of emotions. I really liked it.

Brooke White - 1983’s “Every Breath You Take” by The Police

I was actually disappointed in Brooke's performance this week. When she started on the piano, by herself, and then the strings joining in discreetly, I thought this was really great. I was expecting the band to kick in at some point, but I was expecting it to be discreet, too (if that makes any sense). But when the band actually joined in, I thought it made the whole thing so cheesy... I didn't like the arrangement once the band joined in. Totally agree with Randy and Simon.

Michael Johns - 1978’s “We Are the Champions” by Queen

Alright. Born in Perth, huh? :) Loved that he started with WWRY, that was good and a nice change for that song. He made WATC work for him, and I agree, he had his breakthrough performance tonight. I didn't mind the two off notes, because unlike past performances, he really showed passion tonight, really showed he was pushing himself. WAY TO GO MJ!!!!!!!! The crowd ws going absolutely crazy for him, that was great to see!

Carly Smithson - 1983’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler

She did seem awfully nervous tonight. I thought she sang well, and I did like the rock edge. But she didn't really show anything new tonight. Still, I'm always amazed at the range of her voice. WOW!

David Archuleta - 1990’s “You’re the Voice” by David Foster with Jeff Pescetto

I love that song. It was refreshing to see David do something else than belt a ballad. That being said, I agree with Simon, it really didn't feel like "David A" at all. He sang it well, but the dancing was pretty bad, although the licking the lips was much more under control than we've seen before.

Kristy Lee Cook - 1984’s “God Bless the USA” by Lee Greenwood

OMG, the CHEESE!!!!!!!!!! The red/white/blue lighting with the flag in the background... OMG, THE CHEESE!!!!! She really wants to pull on people's heart strings. She did sing the song well, she's a great singer! But there is a disconnect, something that just doesn't make me go wow when she sings.

David Cook - 1983’s “Billie Jean” by Michael Jackson

Alright. When I heard he was doing the Chris Cornell version, I of course went to listen to it since I was not familiar with it. And I got scared. I dind't like the arrangement or the way Chris was singing it.

But tonight?

Fuck.

Me.

NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG, David knocked this one out of the park. I thought he might have been a tad ahead of the music at the beginning, but then he launched into the chorus, which was absolutely killer. And then? Climax...... And the music stop. FUCK. ME. And he picks it up again, soft and tender.

Let me say it again.

FUCK.

ME.

NOW.

NOW!

My ranking for tonight:

David Cook
Michael Johns
Brooke
Chikezie
Jason
Syesha
Carly
DAvid A
Kristy
Ramiele

American Idol - Top 11 - Results

It was kind of a fun night for an elimination show!

I liked the way they announced the top 10, making each contestant walk up to Ryan, alone with him on stage. But WTF with Carly in the B3??? I imagine she was not really in the B3, but they wanted 1- the public to vote more for her and 2- her to really up her game. There's no way she really was in the B3.

The group sing was baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. Lots of Cook and Johns, which is a definite plus, but other than that... Oh, I was happy to hear While MY Guitar Gently Weeps!

It shouldn't be a surprise that a woman left tonight, since they eliminated a man last week. There are 5 women who go to the Top 10 and 5 guys... Yeah, predictable. Not surprised about Kristy or Amanda to be in the B3, but I was shocked that Ramiele or Syesha made it straight to the Top 10.

The Ford commercial was really fun! I can so see David Cook playing the role of the director and really getting into it. I liked the behind the scenes and then the actual video. A lot of fun!

Kelly Pickler. I didn't like her on her season, and I don't like her much today either. I'm not a big fan of country, what can I say. I have to admit tho, she sounded much better than I ever remember. And she sang without an ear monitor! I was impressed. She looked great, and really played it to the crowd, that was fun. Boy did they spend a lot of time on her pre-performance package tho!!! Why didn't they do that for Blake Lewis too, uh?

So Carly is sent back to the Top 10 couch first. It's down to Kristy and Amanda. I just knew Amanda was going. She didn't seem heartbroken about it at all... And she delivered a solid exit performance. I'm sure she's a fun performer - AI was just not her vehicle.

I'll miss her!

American Idol - Top 11

Hum, maybe it was not such a good idea to have a second Beatles songs night?

Amanda Overmyer - “Back in the Ussr”

Great song choice for Amanda!

Kristy Lee Cook - “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away”

Meh.

David Archuleta - “Long and Winding Road”

Michael Johns - “A Day in the Life”

Michael is looking good in black - did he die his hair? He's sounding really good........ But oh the falsetto was a bit rough...

David Cook - “Day Tripper” - Peter Frampton style with Vox box

Just listening to the audio, David C was................. lkdj9 erutaeuurtwerjsfng wo8ertwer 94 t5ndflga!!! Damn that was good. Can't wait to see the performance!

Brooke White - “Here Comes the Sun”

With just the audio... Brooke sounds good... A bit weird in the lower part of her register, and the WOO! was ... weird? While I didn't really like the arrangement, and Brooke's "falsetto" was... Yikes.

Carly Smithson - “Blackbird”

Straight up version, simple, beautiful. The vocals were really gorgeous. I could have done with the glorified last few bars. The ending was beautiful.

Jason Castro - “Michelle”

Ok, Ryan presenting Jason in French? HAWT!!! But back to Jason... That is such a beautiful song... Jason's vocals were really good on this. I'm not really enjoying the arrangement tho. I agree with Paula, it sounded like a polka, like a sing along song. It was a bit... boring... Performance wise, Jason looked awkward and goofy, but I guess by now this is part of his schtick.

Syesha Mercado - “Yesterday”

I hated it after hearing the first note. That glory note, and the falsetto were soooooooooooo bad... She sang that song way too slowly. I liked that she stayed seated with the guitar player by her side.

Chikezie - “I’ve Just Seen A Face”

He's keeping us on our toes! Once again, I did not expect this from him. I liked the slow arrangement, and he sang well, although the very start of it was rough. Then when he kicked it in with the harmonica... The transition was weird, but the faster pace was fun. After watching the performance, i have to admit I liked it much better. While the performance was not a whole lot in itself, it all tied it together for me,t he vocals, the instrument, the performance... Yep, it worked. Oh, and hello Ashley Clark!

Ramiele Malubay - “I Should Have Known Better”

WTF is that? I can't believe I'm saying this, but Kristy's performance was bad...... But still much better than this! Not feeling this.

My predicted Bottom 3 - Kristy, Syesha, Ramiele.

David Cook - Pre-Idol Music

There is a lot of pre-idol music from David Cook! You can purchase his solo album, Analog Heart on AMAZON.COM. His two Axium albums are available for purchase at WALMART.

From http://www.davidcooktheamericanidol.com/david-cook-bio/

“David Cook’s good looks and witty humor can draw a crowd but it’s his outstanding ability as a musician that keeps them coming back for more. The smile of a boy, the sounds of a man, David transcends the typical boundaries that usually defines an artist. As a Kansas City transplant, David’s background combines the musicality of jazz, the catchy hooks of modern pop, and the raw sounds of Tulsa’s historic rock. Such diverse influences have provided David an honest and appealing versatility. David is today’s Midwest musician.

David’s style exhibits the highest caliber of musicianship and his unerring skills as a guitarist give him a fan base that sets the intelligentsia of the music community side-by-side with the popular high school crowd. David’s straight forward lyrics are, “A little dark, but not depressing a little edgy, but not scary. It’s strong, feel-good, soul strengthening music!” according to Midwestbands.com. His soaring vocals are both rough and sweet in the same breath and the radio-ready lyrics of Fall Back Into Me and Silver are devoid of the cynicism that usually plagues coast rock. David comes across youthfully optimistic and knowingly mature. And the melodic guitar in Don’t Say a Word is a shoe-in candidate for the next edition of Guitar Hero.

David has toured throughout the Midwest and has shared the stage with several big names, including: Caroline’s Spine, Bowling For Soup, Maroon 5, Fountains of Wayne, Happyendings, Smashmouth, and 8STOPS7. As the former front-man of the Kansas City band, Axium, David has already built a formidable fan base. In 2004, David’s former band was named Kansas City’s best local band and in 2006, they were recognized among the top 15 unsigned bands in the “Got Milk? Contest.” David’s voice has also been heard in movie theaters across the country as a featured Movie Tunes artist.

His debut solo album, Analog Heart, was recently named the 4th best album of 2006 by Music Equals Life. Of David’s music, they said, “This is by far the best CD to come out of the Tulsa, OK scene…” Songs from the album are receiving regular airtime on Kansas City and Tulsa radio stations and prior to American Idol, David was in Tulsa recording the follow-up album to Analog Heart.”

Michael Johns - Safe
Jason Castro - Safe

Syesha Mercado - Bottom 3

Chikezie - Safe
Amanda Overmyer - Safe
David Cook - Safe

Kristy Lee Cook - Bottom 3

David Archuletta - Safe

Each bottom 3 contestant sang their song after being announced they were in the bottom 3.

And after an hour of Ford video, group sing, phone calls from viewers, some none sense exchanged between Simon and Ryan... The eliminated contestant is announce...

David Hernandez is going home.

Photobucket

I am a bit disappointed that David went home tonight. I did not expect him to win the competition, but I thought he would make the Top 10. Certainly I thought he would leave after Kristy, Chikezie and perhaps even Syesha!

Next week will be Beatles week again?

American Idol - Top 12

Once again this week, I listened to the audio first, then I watched the performances.

I like the new stage! And I like they added a pit of sorts. Makes for a better "show" feel. I think this really helps the contestants - they all are use to performing live, having an audience in front of them. The big stage and the pit probably makes them feel more comfortable, more in their element, more like they are playing a show and not doing a television show.

Syesha Mercado - “Got To Get You Into My Life”

I didn't like this version at all. I guess Syesha's vocals were good, but she really didn't grab me with her singing. After watching the performance, she really didn't change my mind.

Chikezie - “She’s A Woman”

I bet the die hard Beatles fans will crucify him for this. But I liked it! It was very entertaining, original and totally out of his box. His voice was not as strong as it usually is, and I could have done without the high pitch scream at the end, but all in all, it was a really good performance. And I loved it even more after watching the performance! Loved how he started with some sort of blue grass band, then got up and turned it up. Really, really surprised with this performance, and I really, really, REALLY liked it! Gotta say, I LOVED his reaction to Simon's comment and how Ryan was all "fired up"! *LOL*

Ramiele Malubay - “In My Life”

Boooooooooooooooooooo-riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing... Pretty performance, good vocals, but zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.... The performance didn't change my mind in any way.

Jason Castro - “If I Fell”

Nice, very nice. He's got a good falsetto... A bit weak in places, but all in all, a very Jason Castro kind of performance, and good one at that. Visually, I liked that he played the guitar. I also love that when Simon said it was very student in a bedroom at midnight, Jason said it was very much what he is...

Carly Smithson - “Come Together”

I liked it! I really enjoyed the bluesy twist she put on the song. Her voice sounded awesome, she really gave it all - glory notes, growls, soft vocals, screams... I really enjoyed it!!! Performance wise, I thought she did good, too. She looked more comfortable on the big stage, she seemed to have let loose much more than ever before.

David Cook - “Eleanor Rigby”

One of my very favorite song from the Beatles. LOVE the piano at the beginning - haunting. Great vocals throughout. The guitar and percussions added a really dark twist to the song. And when he launches in the "Aaaaaaaaaa, look at all the lonely people"... WOW!!!!!!!!!! The scream at the end really was perrrrrrrrfect. After watching the performance... I loved it even more!!! I aboslutely adored that he didn't look in the camera but instead played it for the crowd there.

Brooke White - “Let It Be”

Perfect song for her voice. Beautiful straight up arrangement with the piano and the strings. I like it when her voice cracks a bit... The background vocals were subtle and perfect this time. But performing this after David C made it a bit boring, which is too bad because it was really well done. After watching the performance, I kinda wish she didn't play the piano, but rather would have stood next to one.

David Hernandez - “I Saw Her Standing There”

The vocals were good, but not up to par with what David has offered us so far. I enjoyed that he did an upbeat song, but I don't think this was a great choice for him. After watching the performance, I can't say it added much for me. I liked that he connected with the crowd, touched hands with people and all.

Amanda Overmyer - ”You Can’t Do That”

I really like Amanda. Vocally, it was a bit shaky, but I could hear more confidence in her voice, especially as the song went on. I really liked the bridge and when she started scatting. Randy was right, the little southern rock twist on it really worked for her. Performance wise, I thought that was the best she has done so far. Amanda did look much more confident and comfortable on the big stage. I think it might have to do with the fact that she gets more of a "show" feel from the stage set up. She can play it up for the crowd, as opposed to the tv audience when performing on the small stage. I enjoyed watching that. A lot.

Michael Johns - “Across the Universe”

Oh, love the vegemite shirt! *LOL* I really enjoyed Michael's voice tonight. The stripped down rendition of this song really suited him and allowed his voice to shine. The best he's done so far in the competition. His performance really showed how important this song is for him. The emotion was readable on his face, he was really into it. Really, really liked it! And I totally disagree with Randy and Simon - I enjoyed he didn't change the song up and that he sang it straight. He probably couldn't have connected as much with it if he had changed it up.

Kristy Lee Cook - “Eight Days a Week”

Ain't got nothing good to say about this train wreck.

David Archuleta - “We Can Work it Out”

Oh wow... David's voice was pretty weak tonight. I could hear the stress in his voice without even watching him. And wow, he forgot the words to his song... Not good. The start of the song was especially shaky, and he never really was able to get into it and find his groove. The performance was not great either...

Best of the night: David C, Carly, Chikezie
Worst of the night: Kristy, David H, David A
Bottom 3: Kristy, David H, Syesha
Going home: Kristy

American Idol Season 7 - Top 16 - Results

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Well, I can't say I am really surprised about who went home tonight. I think it was pretty much a given that Kady and Luke were going home tonight. It's too bad, I was sad to see Luke go, I liked him.

As for the other two who went home - Asiah' and Danny - I have to admit I was a bit surprised about Danny. I am not really surprised Asiah went home, simply because she went first last night and did not deliver a wow performance by any stretch of the imagination. I did think Amanda would go tho. I am glad it was not the case!

As for Danny - I really thought Chikezie was going to go home. I'm not disappointed Danny went, but I thought he'd be a lock for the top12. Oh well.

When I saw that David Hernandez was still sitting on the couch after the first round of top 12 guys, I got really nervous... I really didn't want him to go! I'm so glad he made the top 12.

American Idol Season 7 - Top 16 - Top 8 Girls

The judges were SO ANNOYING tonight!!!!!!!!!

Asia’h Epperson - I Wanna Dance With Somebody

I thought she did well with it. It was a great song for her - upbeat, high energy, bubbly, just like her. Her vocals were weak and shaky while going down the stairs, but other than that, I thought she did good. not wow, but good.

Kady Malloy - Who Wants To Live Forever

Wow, big song. I think Kady did a good job with it. I really liked the way she ended the song with a soft voice. And wow, she took Simon's comments pretty well. I agree with Paula, best she's done so far.

Amanda Overmyer - I Hate Myself For Loving You

She looked beautiful tonight! I was so excited when I heard Amanda was going to do that song. And she did not disappoint! Perfect song for her, great interpretation, it really was very very good. She killed it! But why did she look so sad, or embarrassed to be there? She should have been smiling a really big and bright smile after Simon's praise... Something's weird here...

Carly Smithson - I Drove All Night

Oh, I love her hair tonight! And I really love the tone of her voice. I didn't know this Cindy Lauper song... I thought it was good! Not my favorite, but I think she did awesome. She really can sing anything... I thought her performance was more relaxed than last week, too. I have to say - I love that she shows off her tattoos the way she does.

Kristy Lee Cook - Faithfully

I liked the little country twang she added to the song. While I think she sang it well, I agree with Simon - she's kind of forgettable.

Ramiele Malubay - Against All Odds

I actually really hated it. She sang it really well... But she didn't put the proper emotions into it. I've said it before... This song needs angst, and she really didn't deliver on that. A few bum notes would have actually improve her performance... Simon is right, I can almost hear her think when she sings.

Brooke White - Love Is A Battlefield

Very very good. Not as good as last week, but still very good! I love her voice, the textures, the tone of it. I would have liked to see her with the guitar again on this song tho. But still, this stripped down version was really good, totally suited Brooke.

Syesha Mercado - Saving All My Love For You

Blech. She sang very well, hit the notes right and all that. Still, it was just ... a bit lukewarm.

Favs: Amanda, Brooke, Carly
Worst: Asia’h, Syesha
Going home: Kady and Amanda (I hope Amanda stays! )

Hallelujah

Tonight on American Idol, Jason Castro sang Leonard Cohen's song, Hallelujah. I really love that song, especially Buckley's and Rossi's renditions of it. So it got me curious to see who else had covered that beautiful song...

American Idol Season 7 - Top 16 - Top 8 Guys

I did a little something different tonight - I listened to the audio only at rickey.org, and then watched the show on TV. It was very interesting to say the least. All the performances held up for me vocally tonight. Yeah, even Luke. His voice was a bit thin, but it still was good vocally. But it changed a bit for some when I watched the performances as well.

Luke Menard - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go

While I thought the vocals were good, I was not wowed by Luke tonight. His voice was thin, His performance added a lot to the song, but all in all, it was not a great song for him.

David Archuleta - Another Day in Paradise

The vocals were great - love how he changed it up a bit. Performance wise? I liked him on the piano, tho his looking at the camera was a bit awkward. But other than that, the performance was pretty ordinary.

Danny Noriega - Tainted Love

I was worried he was going to butchered this song, but his vocals really held up on this one. I'm not a huge fan of his voice, but I thought the song was well suited for Danny's voice. But the performance ruined it all for me. The cheesy dance moves were awful, and the weird facial expressions... Yeah, not feeling it.

David Hernandez - It’s All Coming Back to Me Now

While I think David H lacks a little bit of depth to his voice to really, really, REALLY kill that song, I think he still did a really, really, REALLY great job with it. The vocals were superb, and so was his performance. He gave me chills. One of my favorite tonight.

Michael Johns - Don’t You Forget About Me

Michael is back! That was pretty good. I like his higher register - his lower tone is good, but a bit weak. Great song choice - that was totally him.

David Cook - Hello

First of all, when I heard David was going to sing "Hello", I was like WTF? I just couldn't imagine him singing that song. I LOVED it. Oh wow! Reminded me a bit of Lukas Rossi when he did "Living on a Prayer" on RockStar Supernova. I loved that David started out with the electric guitar, the band kicking up a bit after. I loved his interpretation of the song, the way he phrased it a bit differently, and the way he ended it. Very, VERY good!

Jason Castro - Hallelujah

Oh I love that song... I hated that Jason let the judges and their "no guitar next time" comments get to him. This song would have been perfect for him to perform with the guitar. I think he did a great job with it - the tempo was a bit fast, I felt it needed to be a bit slower for Jason to really get into the lyrics... And it was too bad about that last little bit, because his vocals were really good throughout. His performance, eyes closed and all, really added to it all. I really enjoyed Jason this week.

Chikezie - All the Man (woman) that I Need

While the vocals were good, this really didn't work for me. The change in lyrics didn't work, and I just plain dislike a man singing this song. I think Chikezie will be gone come Thursday.
