I have to admit it's the first time in weeks I liked his performance. He seemed to feel the song, sang it well (tho he seemed a bit ahead of the music in the beginning). Oh and Simon? Way to call him out on his obvious choice without actually slamming him for it. *rolls eyes*
I actually really enjoyed her tonight! Like RAndy, I thought the beginning was a bit shaky, but her lower register is really pretty. And the rest, well, she gave me goosebumps. I thought she pulled it off really well.
I thought she sounded good in the lower parts... The screaming was a bit much tho. I have to admit she's pretty brave and bold in her choices. She chose to do all the runs like Mariah and all... While she is not Mariah, I still think she did good.
She started out good, then hit a few bum notes and sped up her playing and singing. There were gerat moments in there, and others who were completely ouch.

More coherent reaction: OMG.... Seriously....... I'm such a huge moron.... I'm in tears! My heart was pounding when he started low, a bit shaky....... But when he kicked it up? OMFG, I started crying and jumping up and down and pumping my fists and flailing all over the place. To have Randy stand up, Paula gushing, and THAT HUGE SHIT EATING GRIN ON FUCKING SIMON COWELL'S FACE........... OMG!!!!!!!! And those tears............. OMG!!!!!!! *crying*
Poor Jason, I could not concentrate on his performance after what David Cook delivered. I had to watch it again more than an hour after it was all said and done. I have to say I enjoyed the arrangement, it suited him very well. I was happy to hear him use his falsetto more. His voice sounded stronger and more confident than before. Very good.
My Top 3: David Cook, David Cook, David Cook
My Bottom 3: It should be Syesha, Kristy and Brooke, but I'm pretty sure it'll be Brooke, Carly and Kristy.
Eleanor Rigby - The live performance was like a fist to the gut. Cook's strong stage presence, his powerful yet tender at times vocals, the lighting.... It was awesome. The studio version lives up to this fantastic live performance. Gorgeous.
Day Tripper - I loved the live performance - it was like a rock show! On American Idol! The studio recording is awesome, too. Cook's vocals are strong, gritty where it counts. I miss the vococorder tho...
Billy Jean - The live performance of that song had a strong visual effect - the lighting, Cook's demeanor, the way he changed up the song... What a great, amazing surprise it was. The studio recording is as good, although I prefer the live performance for the power that the visual of it had on me.
Little Sparrow - the live performance was great! And the studio version is as good, if not better. A bit monotonous, but that's the nature of the song. I love the tribal sounding drums... Makes the song more dramatic.
Innocent - this version is soooooooooooooooooo much better than the live performance. I think it has to do with the fact that the song needs to build up to have an impact - the 1min30sec Idol format doesn't really work with this song.
Always Be My Baby - I would have never thought in a million years that this could be as good as it was. Nothing will ever, EVER compare to the passion and emotion Cook displayed on stage during his live performance, but this studio version is still beautiful. I miss the rhythmic violins and drums, but all in all, a very, very solid version.
Music of the Night - David showed everyone just how versatile a singer he really is. A rocker who can sing operatic music? What? Are you kidding me? Yes, he really can! And he does it beautifully, too. His voice is pure and clear here, devoid of any grit (I love the grit, I really do). When he sings, "Touch me, Trust me, Savor every sensation", I believe him.
I'm Alive - The live performance was so darn short! This recording is GREAT! David the rocker is back in full force with this. It's the kind of song you listen to at top volume in the car, windows rolled down, driving fast, drumming the beat on the steering wheel... Great, great, GREAT!
Hungry Like The Wolf - Much heavier, more rocking version than the live performance. I like, I like a LOT!!!
Well, it happened. We had our first shocker elimination of the season.
The night started with a recap of the previous night, when the Idol Gives Back gala was on. 60 millions, blah, blah, blah, more celebs, blah, blah, blah, montage of celebs being silly to the song "I'm a Believer".
The Ford Commercial was quite fun this week!
Our Top 8 then gave us an encore of "Shout To The Lord" as a group sing. I have to admit that it's a great song to sing as a group - David Cook shines once again with his amazing glory noting. Yeah, I'm biased, but the guy can hold a note for the longest time, I swear!
Then it's time for the results. Brooke White came out first, and was sent to the Couches of Safety. David Cook was next - he walked slowly up to Ryan, who asked him how he feels. "Either way", said a worried Cook, looking back and forth between the couches and the stools. Ryan asked what he thought of Simon calling him pompous, and in true Word Nerd fashion, David answered that, after being called arrogant, smug and now pompous, he wondered what other word can be used to say the same thing. I love him. He was sent to the Couches of Safety, relieved. David Archuleta was up net. And of course, Archie was safe.
Jordin Spark and Chris Brown performed their single "No Air". I think Jordin's a good singer, but I cannot care less about this song even if I wanted to.
Jason Castro and Kristy Lee Cook were brought up net. Both were safe.
Which means that the Bottom 3 was composed of Carly Smithson, Syesha Mercado and Micheal Johns.
Watch as the one to leave the competition is announced.
Yes, Michael Johns was eliminated. Sent home. Such. Bull. Shit.
And Ryan was a complete jerk to tease Michael by saying they didn't send anyone home last year. Complete. Jerk. I like Ryan, but this was unnecessary cruel.
Nonetheless, Michael sang "Dream On" one last time, and he kicked the shit out of that song, showing everyone what he is made of. Not a rock singer? Fuck you Randy, Fuck you Simon.
It's kind of unfair to have those kids do a big huge show two days before they have to do their own show for the competition. Tonight sucked for pretty much everyone, when it should have been much better given the theme and most likely the broad song choice (one hopes anyway).
Randy who says he likes the blues stuff better, Paula loving it, Simon on the fence about it. I thought he did really well with it, the beginning was a bit pitchy, but then when he launches into it, it's GREAT!!!!! The scream had me going ish for a bit, but then it ended out ok. On the positive side - the crowd was LOVING him!!!!! I actually really liked the ascot for some reason. And I loved that Michael was explaining to Randy why he chose the song.
She did sing it well, and although I thought she was getting into it more than she ever did before, I was with Randy in that I didn't feel like she had an emotional connection to the song.
Jason Castro - “Over The Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo
Alright, Baby Blues gave me chills. I love that version of the song, and I love that he did it more or less the same. Love the yukulele, and I thought he played around with his vocals more than ever before. And I did feel his emotional connection to the song, more than with Halleluia. And finally the crowd is quiet and just LISTEN. Loved it!
David gave me cold sweats tonight.... He was off... Something was bothering him, I know it. I thought his voice held off, but he really didn't have that fire in him like he usually does. On a total shallow note, I love the scruff. He started out really low, but it sounded good... Then he switched into a higher register at a weird moment - he sounded great, but the transition was weird... When he kicked into the bridge, that was all kinds of awesome. I LOVED when he points upward and sing "One Day" - oh that was GOOD. From then on, he sounded really awesome. And Andrew at the end? *LOL* Made me laugh. Didn't expect the judges to love it. The judges dissing him will hopefully make his fans vote harder.
What's up with Archie not having the pimp spot? I call shenanigans on this! They want him out! I know they don't like him! Poo on the judges and AI and everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!! . . . . . . . . . Right.
I thought Archie did well, but I was bored. He did nothing extraordinary - he pretty much sang it the exact same way he did in those youtube videos floating around the net.
