American Idol - Season 8 - Top 2 - Results - FINALE!

Just under 100 million votes came in last night! Ryan introduces the judges with funny clips of them. Then he introduces Kris and Adam.

To start us off, here's a group sing! "So What" by Pink with the Top 13. They are all dressed in white. Pretty average group sing, but it's fun nonetheless.

David Cook is on singing "Permanent". The video of tonight's live performance will be up on iTunes, and proceeds will go to the research against brain cancer. Go buy it, all of you, go buy it! It was such a heartfelt performance, it made me cry.

Switching gear now we are in with the Golden Idol Awards. We are shown a few guys who *quite* didn't make it. Nominees for Outstanding Male are Wil Kunick, Michael Gurr, Elijah Scarlett, Dean-anthony Bradford, Nick Mithcell aka Normun Gentle! and the award goes to... Normun Gentle/Nick Mithcell! And tho he had "not prepared anything" he "strips down" and sings for us!

Now Seacrest wears Nick's glasses and headband. *LOL*

First duet of the night - Lil Rounds and Queen Latifah sing "Cue The Rain". That was not very good, I'm sorry to say.

Anoop starts us up with "I'm Yours" and Alexis joins in. And then Jason Mraz!!!!! Then the rest of the Top 10 joins in for the chorus. Hot mess but fun performance!!!

Kris Allen's journey to the Top 2. And then Kris performs with Keith Urban on "Kiss A Girl". They are sounding awesome! the song is good, catchy, and Kris looks comfortable and professional standing next to Keith! Awesome duet. Wonder why Kris never did that song or something like it?

Top 5 girls are singing together "Glamourous"??? and now Fergie comes on stage to sing with the girls "Big Girls Don't Cry". and now the Black Eyed Peas with "Boom boom Pow"!

Golden Idol Awards again - Best Attitude nominees are Katrina Darrell, Bikini Girl!, Alexis Cohen aka Finger Girl, Tiffany Shedd. And the Golden Idol goes to, Bikini Girl, of course... And she's wearing a bikini, of course, showing off her new boob job, that Ryan noticed... And she goes out and sing for us all... And of course she's completely flat. And she's joined on stage by Kara DioGuardi! Kara actually is completely upstaging Bikini Girl, and it's funny as hell! Kara actually has a decent voice... And after the long glory note, she rips open her dress, and she's wearing a bikini!!!

Cindy Lauper is up on stage singing "Time After Time" with Allison Iraheta. They are sounding good!

Photobucket

Danny Gokey is now singing "Hello". It's all wrong! It's David Cook's song! And now Lionel Richie is coming on stage singing ??? with Danny. Danny did a good job, but I can't help it, this song has forever and ever been transformed into a David Cook song. I can't hear anything else but his version now. Lionel Richie is sounding really good still, and I can't help it - All Night Long is a very cheesy song, but it makes me smile, sing and dance!

Photobucket

Adam's journey is now presented to us. And now Adam is singing Detroit Rock City and I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night with KISS! And WTF is that he's wearing??? *ROTFLMAO* Adam is also wearing big KISS boots, but they are gold... Interesting. I have to admit, this was entertaining!

Photobucket

Carlo Santana is now up on stage... playing Black Magic Woman. Damn he's good. and he's joined on stage by Matt Giraud on vocals. Now the Top 13 joins in and they sing "Smooth". That was really good!

Photobucket

Ford Video to the tune of "I Will Remember You"

David Cook presents Adam and Kris with Ford cars. Cute!

Megan Joy, Michael Sarver and Steve Martin??? Playing a song Martin wrote "Pretty Flowers". Weird...

Photobucket

Top 13 is back on the stage singing some "IF You Think I'm Sexy" Rod Stewart songs, and then the man himself joins in on "Maggie Mae".

Photobucket

Last Golden Idol Awardfor Outstanding Female - nominees are Chelsea Marquat, Irene Angulova, Dana Moreno, Tatiana Nicole Del Toro. And the winner is... Tatiana, of course.... And Ryan tries to play up the "we don't have time" thing... Tatiana sings anyway...

Adam and Kris are dueting on Queen's "We Are The Champions". Bryan May is on guitar!!! Fun.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even he didn't think he'd win, I think. He looks so surprised, and he's speechless! And now he sings "No Boundaries". I thought he actually sounded better on that song tonight. But yeah, it's not great. I'd take the Magic Rainbow any day of the week over that. :)

I am very surprised Kris won. But at the same time, I'm not. It's weird... I really expected Adam to win, but knowing most of Gokey's votes would go to Kris, I really shouldn't be surprised. Still... I'm kinda disappointed Adam didn't win, even if I didn't like his style and his voice, as I think he really deserved it. But I'm also happy Kris won - the fact he was a real, true dark horse (no exposure in the auditions) that came from no where to win it all.. I like that. A lot. :) And I like Kris a lot, so I'm happy. And yeah, another one of my fav won. :)

American Idol - Season 8 - Top 2 - Performances

Tonight the contestants sing for the title! They'll each sing a song they've previously sung in the season, one song producer Simon Fuller chose for them, and the coronation song co-written by Kara DioGuardi.

Round 1: Songs from the season

Adam Lambert - Mad World by Tears For Fears
Adam makes his entrance at the top of the stairs, wearing a long trench coat and big emo boots. What a dramatic entrance. Do not like. He sounds good tho. He's doing as good if not better than when he did it earlier in the show. He really did control his vocals, and to me that is a huge plus. Good job Adam. Simon is being critical of Adam - is he trying to rile up his fans?

Kris Allen - Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers
Kris is sitting down at the grand piano. Starts out slow and with the piano only, and then the band kicks in. Beautiful. I think he even put in more emotions than the first time he's done the song. He looses himself in that song, and the arrangements is just wonderful. Love, love, love it. Simon says that America has made the right choice voting him in the Top 2. Simon being nice to Kris? Trying to lull his fanbase to sleep? Simon even gives this round to Kris.

In my opinion, Round 1 goes to Kris.

Round 2: Simon fuller's pick

Adam Lambert - A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke
Adam has two guitarists on either side of him. He's singing a song that requires a lot of soul... and his voice JUST. DOES. NOT. HAVE. IT. I don't think this song suits him at all. He's singing it well enough, meaning he's on pitch and he's putting his own spin on it, which I can appreciate. But I think more than ever that his wail really doesn't belong in this song. Holy Shit. No, please no. Randy "You Can Sing Your Face Off". Kara "Best song from the whole season from you". Paula "That was the best I've ever heard you sing ever ever". Simon "You Are 100% Back in the game".

Kris Allen - What’s Going On by Marvin Gaye
A guitarist, a drummer and a "box" player by his side, Kris sits on a stool with his guitar. He sings with soul, and he's sounding amazing. This is a really great song for Kris. I think the truncated version of the song might not have worked as great as it could have, but I think Kris did really great with this. Loved it. Randy "This is a little bit light for this point in the competition". Kara "You are true to yourself and have been from day one" Paula "You tore that song up and made Marvin Gave proud". Simon "I liked it but it was like three friends sitting in a bedroom playing Marvin Gave. Too laid back for a night like this". Oh Simon giving criticism to Kris? What's going on? Simon give this round to Adam "A million percent".

Round 2 goes to Kris no doubt.

Round 3: Coronation song

Adam Lambert - No Boundaries
Adam is sounding off a bit. This song really, but REALLY doesn't suit Adam. He did all he could with this sucky, sycky song. What else should we expect from an AI coronation song? Randy "You can sing anything, you can sing the phone book, but this was just alright for me". Kara "I'm moved and proud and thanks for giving me that moment". Paula "Adjectives cannot express what you've brought to this show". Simon "It's the mountains and the hurricanes. You have been one of the best, most original contestants we've ever had on the show. I believe with all my heart we have found a star in you".

Kris Allen - No Boundaries
And now Kris with the same song. I feel the tempo is a bit too fast for Kris, but he's doing well in the lower registered parts. The higher parts are sounding good, too, but he sounds like he's right at the edge of his register, which highlights a weakness rather than showing off his voice. The key is definitely too hight for him. I liked the acoustic guitar feel to this song better than the rock edge they put non it for Adam. Poor Kris has given this his all, but he looks uncomfortable. Randy "You should be proud of what you've done". Kara "I don't want you to be judged on that song, I think the key was too high. You are a compelling artist". Paula "You've done an amazing job to get where you are at. You deserve where you are in that spot light". Simon "First song was the highlight for you tonight. It's been amazing to watch you grow throughout the season (paraphrasing)". Again, Simon giving props to Kris? Putting his fanbase to sleep?

Round 3 goes to Kris, but both struggled big time with this dreadful song.

Carrie Underwood closes the show with her "Home Sweet Home". Meh.

How is it all going to be in the end? Find out on the finale...

American Idol Season 7 - Top 20 - Results

Well, well, well...

Oh boy was the group sing cheesy and bad. Of all the good songs from that area to choose from, and they came up with that medley of songs??? [/sarcasm] Good news was, Michael sounded great and so did Amanda.

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

I was very surprised that Amanda was safe, and that Alexandrea was sent home. I like Amanda, and I am happy she is staying, but when I saw her up against Alexandrea, I really thought she was going. I am a bit disappointed to see Alexandrea go tho - she was spunky and fun and could really sing. She was different, but I guess she didn't have the chance to show how different and interesting she could be.

Very cute how David A. was crying, and she went to hug him at the end... Little romance brewing there? ;)

I was not surprised to see Jason Y. leave tonight. He does have a good voice (I like his tone very much), and his singing was way better tonight compare to Tuesday. But he really has to work on his stage presence, and on not to smile so much when he sings. I think he could do well, but he's got work to do.

Alaina vs Kady.... I really was expecting Kady to leave, and I think she did, too. Poor Alaina, she really was taking it hard. Ryan was sweet with her, and it was nice that all the girls were encouraging her to sing. I actually really liked her rendition tonight, she gave me chills. If all the contestants could sing like that - with raw emotions and like it is their last time on that stage - I can tell you we'd have many more great moments on that stage and on that show.

Aw, again, David A and Danny were crying for Alaina... So sweet.

Robbie vs Luke... I really didn't know who was going to leave. In my opinion, Luke sang the worse of the two last night. And he looks older than Robbie, so I thought that perhaps Luke would be the one to go. But it was Robbie. I guess the comments to him that he is not authentic and all that crap really took its toll. You could tell Robbie was annoyed when Simon mentioned it again. I'm glad Luke is staying tho, I like him and I think that if he chose the right song, he can really wow us.

So, it'll be a Beatles theme for the top 12. They also forgot to mention that Blake Lewis will be singing on the night of the top 12 results. He'll be performing his second single, How Many Words.

And the '80s await us next week...

American Idol Season 7 - Top 20 - Top 10 Girls

Another lukewarm night... Overall, the girls were better than last week, but they were still a bit bland. No real break through performances tonight.

Carly Smithson - “Crazy on You”

I really liked this song choice for Carly. The tone of her voice really suited this song. She seemed quite uncomfortable tho, and didn't let loose quite enough to really pull this song off. Her vocals were brilliant, but her physical performance was a bit lacking. She did a great job nonetheless, and was one of my favorite tonight.

Syesha Mercado - “Me And Mr. Jones”

I didn't like this song for Syesha. I like her softer, lower voice, but her voice is thin in these low parts. Her last, held note was ... weird.

Brooke White - “You’re So Vain”

I liked this very, very much. Her lowest notes were a bit rough, but she recovered well from them. Her voice lends itself very well to the singer/songwriter vibe she had going on tonight. She seemed really comfortable on stage. I also like when she reaches for the highest notes, her voice goes a bit raspy. Nice, very nice,

Ramiele Malubay - “Don’t Leave Me This Way”

I did not like this for her, it did not allow her to showcase her range, her powerful voice at all. She seemed quite distracted throughout the song. The beginning was weird, the dancing distracted her from her vocals, which resulted in a flat, emotionless delivery.

Kristy Lee Cook - “You’re No Good”

I actually enjoyed Kristy this week. So much better than last week. The little country flavor of the song really suits her. Her vocals were good - it's too bad her voice cracked when she went for that high note. Her physical performance is lacking tho.

Amanda Overmyer - “Carry On My Wayward Son”

Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. Oh my, what happened to her? She looked so sad tonight for some reason. She was really pitchy throughout, and her usual powerful, emotional vocals were really absent tonight. Not good at all.

Alaina Whitaker - “Hopelessly Devoted To You”

Not bad, but not great either. She needs a slower tempo to allow her vocals and phrasing to really work together. The verses were actually good, but the chorus was a bit of a let down. She was pitchy on the highest notes, and a bit flat on the rest of it.

Alexandrea Lushington - “If You Leave Me Now”

I really like her voice - she can really sing! And I love her style. And while she sang this song well, it just didn't work all together.

Kady Malloy - “Magic Man”

I did not like this. I so agree with Simon - something just isn't right. She's so likable in her little clips, funny, personable. But once she hits the stage, this all goes out the window. Awful song choice, so so physical performance, ok vocals. The arrangement was also not great...

Asia’h Epperson - “All By Myself”

I'm so over contestants singing this song... Asia'h didn't do this song justice at all. Her phrasing and pronunciation were weird. And the first time she sings the "All by myself" her voice leaves her. OUCH. Asia'h can put so much emotion in her songs, but she didn't do that at all tonight.

Best: Carly Smithson, Brooke White
Worst: Amanda Overmyer, Asia'h Epperson

Going home: Kady and Amanda
