Canadian Idol - Season 6 - Auditions - Hamilton, Ottawa, St. John's and Halifax

More auditions!!!

Alright, what is up with the weird start? We are shown a mock audition, with mock judges played by kids, with a mock contestant, even a fake Ben! *L* Too cute.

We start with Ottawa...

Jonny Whitehead welcomes us in our nation's capital. If he can go overseas and have bombs flying over his head, he can certainly audition in front of the Canadian Idol judges, right? Yes, he certainly can. You are going to Toronto, baby!

A lot of people have told the next contestant, Kelsi Schauerte, that she sounds like Kelly Clarkson. No Golden Ticket for Kelsi, but a hug for Zach!

Lisa Closs is a terrible singer, according to Zach. Jake can't say if he agrees or not, he had his ears plugged all the way trough. Gotta say, for once, I myself do agree with Zach.

Celene Donnelly just wants to have fun. She might be the only one in the room who does.

Dan Young plays guitar and sings, music is his life. He says he's doing that for his mom who has cancer and is dying. His song choice for the audition is not very melodic, but there is a sincerity in his raspy voice that is quite touching. Farley says no, but Dan still goes through. He goes to the hospital to show his mother the Golden Ticket... Very touching moment. Sadly, we learn at the end that his mom passed away some times in 2008.

Kristine Lankinen, Business graduate, singer and bartender, self admitted geek. She sings "Alone" by Heart. She seems nervous, balancing her arms back and forth... But she pulls through, the judges like her, and she's on her way to Toronto!

Ryan Mawla comes right out and admits he use to be a man, but now he's a girl. A bit heavy for a pre-audition package, but I kinda like the honesty. Zach actually shows an open mind and a lot of compassion towards Ryan, saying that music might not be the right vehicle to express who he is, but that the message he/she wants to convey is important. Ryan then talks to Jully Black, saying she inspires him/her. Hugs, tears, touching moment.

We are now in Hamilton, hometown of the current Canadian Idol, Brian Melo!

Nicholaus J Gordon is up first. 16, with a beard, singing "Rehab" in a weird voice... Still he goes through... I guess uniqueness won over good voice...

Rufus shakes his groovy thing to "Get Down Tonight". Energetic audition that earns him a Golden Ticket!

Barbara Griffore says she is our next Canadian Idol. Hum, not so much.

Bill Smith. Yep, his audition was as monotone as his name is boring. He does talk back to Zach, which is actually entertaining.

Sarah Dillon. No, just no.

Jade Padua has a background in acting, singing and dancing. She has a good voice, is on pitch... But maybe not entirely herself? Jake thinks that they'll be able to break her and beat her into being herself. I guess we'll see, since she's going to Toronto!

Jessica Sheppard almost made it to the top 22 last year. And she's back for more. See you in T.O., baby...

Construction worker Adam Castelli is no stranger to the music scene. He use to be in a band with his brother, had a record ready before his brother had a huge accident. So Adam hopes Canadian Idol can help him rebuild his dreams. He starts out his audition by talk-singing his lyrics... Very strange. Then he starts to really sing his chorus... Great, great, great. The judges all love how he touches them emotionally. Off to T.O. you go, baby!

Online auditions were accepted this year, and 11 hopeful impressed the judges enough to go on to the top 200. Hum... Not sure I like the online audition thing...

And here we are on the east coast!

Mark Day, the 90 year old baby face, sings "The Power of Love". Not my kind of singer, but the guy can sing... He's on his way to The Big Smoke!

A little montage of funny judges noises and guitar players who really are not. Later, we meet Lindsay Barr. Good performance ability, nice tone, off to Toronto she goes!

Mitch MacDonald is a very proud Cap Bretoner who comes from a musical family of traditional dancing and singing. He's got quite a unique voice, nice tone, interesting personality... He had Sass at Hello, and he's on his way to Toronto!

Ben needs other kinds of shirts...

Luke and Jock do the original canadian idol song to a string of "no, no, no, no, no" from the judges. They don't make it either.

Next week, the Top 200 goes to Toronto and will get cut down to 22.... Stay tuned!

INXS Switched on Tour: Ottawa, ON - 5/12/2006

What a wonderful time I had in Ottawa! From the drive with emufarmer - what a riot this girl is! - and b4beth - she rocks!!!, to the concert to our little adventure in the rain, this was one of the most fun I've had in a long time. The drive to Ottawa was so much fun! Those 5 hours went by so quickly with those two girls. We chatted almost non-stop all the way to Ottawa, listening to INXS, giggling like schoolgirls (we did a lot of that in Ottawa). :)

The concert was AMAZING! JD's voice was spot on, almost perfect. The best I've heard him so far. WOW!!! He started with Suicide Blonde of course, wearing a magnificent pink shirt and a fitted blazer. *poof* *thud* *dead* right there! He looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good in pink. They did Hot Girls which rocked live (still prefer the album version, but it's a great song for a concert!) and they played Perfect Strangers for us!!!! WOOHOO!!! How freaking happy I was to hear that one. The rest of the set list was the same as before. No Disappear tho. I think my favorite of the night was Never Let You Go again. Andrew was bouncing at the keyboards, shaking his maracas, it was sooooooooooo cool to see him do that! Taste It was completely AMAZING, even without the mike stand sex. They did an extended bridge, and we were treated to a long, wonderful, beautiful jam session, featuring mostly the wonderful guitar work of Mr. Andrew Farris. WOW!!!!! Seriously, as much as I love the mike stand sex, it really was great to hear and feel the music, and have Andrew be featured like that. It was great!

My ticket was 2nd row, last seat on the side aisle. The front row was shorter, so I had no one in front of me, but I was so far off to the side that I couldn't see very well. I had moved to 2nd row dead center, but the seat owners showed up, and so Rouquine and I moved to the 3rd row, dead center. I FREAKING LOVED IT!!! I had an awesome view of everyone, especially Jon. His eyes were so sparkly last night! He was playing a lot with the front row people, throwing smiles and making eye contact a lot. Kirk was awesome, and acknowledged me two or three times, smiling and winking. :) I love me some Kirk! Tim was ON FIRE at the beginning of the show, bouncing around and having fun. He didn't venture to much on Kirk side, but I saw plenty of Timmy, and I loved it. During Need You Tonight, during the part "I'm lonely, Can't think at all, Gonna Live my life", he makes some little gestures to go with the words, and I did them with him. He smiled at me while we "danced" together, it was cool. :) Andrew got a huge crowd reaction when he came to the front to play his guitar (can't remember which song). He had fun on NLYG, and it's just great to see him have such a blast. At some point JD was smoking, and he gave a puff to Andrew, who took it and nodded his head at him. Garry came up front a whole lot last night, and he looks really, really good. Love his "new" look! He doesn't interact as much with the crowd, but I love watching him play and really get into the music. He makes the best faces while playing!

JD... I had such a clear view of JD last night. His voice was perfect! I had my first, albeit quick, eye fuck, then a second, then a third (I think). They were brief, only a sec or two, but *thud*... Maybe I imagined this, but I don't care! JD looked at me and his eyes said I was beautiful and I ate it up! *LOL*

How delusional am I, really? *LOL*

I'm glad I got to see the band at Massey Hall, in such an intimate venue, and tho I missed that last night, JD is growing so much as a performer, and the show was even better than at Massey Hall (in my opinion anyway). JD did his little rap thing, and rapped a few more time here and there, and introduced the band on Taste It while singing. I love that he is putting more and more of himself in the show. It feels like the songs are really his now.

After the show, we wanted to go to that bar a 448er invited us to. No taxi in sight, and it was pouring rain! We had quite a nice time in the rain tho. :) But after being soaked like we were, we ended up going back to the hotel, dried ourselves up, and b4beth, emufarmer, suzieblue (the best roommate ever!!!) and I hung out in our room, drinking, talking, giggling, laughing our asses off. There's a basketball team out there that will never be the same thanks to us! ;)

The drive back home was great with suzieblue. Thanks so much girl!!! *hugs and kisses*

Rouquine, thanks for the chips you left in our room. ;) And thanks for being such a great concert buddy! I love seeing you pee your pants everytime JD would jump. I think I got more enjoyment at seeing you squee than seeing JD jump! Although I too find it pretty hot... ;) I LOVE YOU!!!

Sernie, it was really, really nice to meet you and your friend! Has she been converted to the power of the BSC yet? ;) I hope to see you again soon!

aussiemomma, you are one hot babe! I'm so glad you got to see the band from the front. You are a blast and I love your accent!

d75scorpio, you are a riot girl. Thanks for the shooter! And I agree with you - that mike stand is either pregnant or having its period! ;) You are too funny! Are you coming to TO? *hint hint*

ottawafan, it was so nice to meet you and your daughter! I'm sorry we didn't get to chat more, but I'm glad you came to the restaurant. What an awesome time we had!

To my partners in crime - b4beth, emufarmer and suzieblue... Girls, I love you, and I had a blast with you three. We may not have ended the night the way we would have liked it, but the umbrella sure was nice!!! I'd do the EXACT SAME THING over again if given the choice! Well, except maybe for the part where we were only 4 in the cab...

TO tomorrow!!!
